In this paper we examine the connection between cinema and urbanism. Our objective is to analyze the way in which the consequences of modernization processes on the urban configuration of the city of Buenos Aires have been represented in 1958 and 1968. In order to accomplish that, we present the following cinematographic works that will be approached comparatively: “Buenos Aires” by David Kohon and “Detrás de un largo muro” (“Behind a long wall”) by Lucas Demare, both from 1958; “Semana de Buenos Aires” (“Buenos Aires’ week”) by Sucesos Argentinos and “Erradicación de villas miseria” (“Eradication of villas miseria”) by Ricardo Alventosa, from 1968. We take up the concept of “exclusionary modernization” (Gorelik, 2004) to study the coexistence and correlation between different city patterns from the dialectic pair social structure-‐ space configuration. he core of this paper is to contrast the ways in which the beautification and prosperity of certain parts of the city and also the gigantic growth of villas miseria are represented on cinema.es_ES
